When you create a new Action, a dialog box will appear. If the Action window isn’t on your screen, click Window > Action from the main menu or press Alt + F9 (Windows) on your keyboard. To create a new Action, click the New Action button within the Action window. You can record just one edit/process, or record many edits within a single Action. For example, if you find yourself resizing your images to 800px wide and then applying the Unsharp Mask filter, you can create an Action to do these processes, and then execute them by simply pressing a key on your keyboard. Actions are used to record anything you may do to an image, such as applying a favorite filter or resizing, and assigning it to a keyboard shortcut. If you often edit hundreds of photos in a given month, this feature will save you hours of time.īefore we get into the details about automating Photoshop with Batches and Droplets, we need to take a quick look at Photoshop Actions. There are a couple of little known features in Photoshop, called Batches and Droplets, that allows us to perform an Action (or a series of Actions) on many photos at once. Resizing images is a simple task, but it can quickly become a boring and tedious task if you have more than just a few images to resize. So, we are often left with the task of resizing these images so that they are “web ready.” That is, reduced in dimension (how large they appear on screen) and in file size (how much room they take up on your hard drive). Large file sizes mean longer downloads for your friends and family, and can also be the reason why your emails won’t go through (many email servers won’t accept messages larger than 10mb). You see, the more pixels an image uses, the larger its file size will be. The problem arises when we just want to share these pictures on the web or email a few of them to a friend or relative. In fact, the more pixels you have the better your printed photos will look. This isn’t a problem when it comes to printing your photos. ![]() However, with each improved model of digital camera, the number of pixels used to create our photos increases, often by the millions. No longer do we have to keep up with envelopes of negatives or worry about getting your film developed. One of the best things about digital photography is how easily you can take dozens of pictures and quickly share them with your friends and family. ![]() ![]() ![]() The puppet can also hold a Notepad, Pointer, Pen, and an Envelope. Our server was prompt, efficient, and so polite - just like all of the other employees we met during our short visit. We had breakfast the next morning in the hotel restaurant and it was one of the best eggs benedict I have ever had. It’s certainly interesting, helping ensure you don’t miss anything, but four hours of in-game time is a lot, and should really be shorter. That means every four hours, the shop will display new items, but that’s four hours of the game running or actually playing the game to happen. The store rotates items only with an in-game clock. The shop only uses coins earned within the game, that’s only possible from playing. ![]() Rest assured that no real money can be taken here. Naturally, I had reservations at the inclusion of this shop, as kids will be playing this and having to gamble for a car. There’s an in-game shop to buy limited items or blind boxes. The in-game secrets incentivize going back and either getting first place or achieving the fastest time to make progress, as you’ll have to suss out that maybe you need to play a particular level with the Hot Wheels school bus in order to unlock a secret, or defeat a certain boss to unlock the next. With so many races, it’s easy to get a little burnt out. There’s also times where there’s blind corners that are impossible to scout, that prompt learning only after you mess it up. And unfortunately these kinds of tracks aren’t used enough, only appearing in a handful of them. Sometimes a track will spit you out upside-down and you’ll have to correct yourself so that you land correctly. What that means, is that some tracks are really amazing with high-flying jumps, long drifts, or precise turns. As a result, not all tracks are created equally. More environments or less tracks would have avoided this problem altogether. They’re all unique and special, but they tend to feel limited with over ninety tracks, as repetition starts to set in. There are six areas to race in: Garage, Track Room, College Campus, Basement, Skyscraper, and Skate Park. There’s a lot of obstacles and split-second decisions you have to make that keeps things exciting. The race tracks will have magnetic pieces, boost pads, and even traps like spiders that shoots webbing to halt you in place (complete with a record scratch inserted into the soundtrack) as well as a snake with its mouth open that can close at the wrong time during a jump. If you time hitting the gas just before the number two appears in the countdown, you’ll get an off-the-line boost. Drifting is simple, yet rewarding when you get a car that has good enough handling to maintain one. Often you’ll tap the brake to initiate a drift, but the actual use of the brake will rarely, if ever be used to stop. The act of driving in HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED is rather simple. There’s a lot of content here, but not all of it is great. It takes ten hours to complete all of the races, and to get 100% map completion and winning every race took me about fourteen hours in total. I played on the Normal difficulty, and it only started getting challenging about halfway through. There’s nearly 100 races to occupy your time. It features different kinds of races from quick races to time attacks to even boss battles. Most of the time spent in this game will be with Hot Wheels Rumble, the singleplayer campaign mode for the game. It could also use a little more flair and personality in its presentation. It’s very familiar, certainly, and still lacks the quality of car damage it had 10 years ago. This is a brilliant, great-looking F1 sim and just keeps getting deeper the more you look into it. Keep Fighting Foundation DLCīut as for the main game, definitely take it. Take it or leave it, just don’t expect anything like the loving retro treatment that F1 2013 received. None of these older cars feel like they did in the old games or even seem to move authentically when you compare them to onboard footage from the time, but they certainly look lovely and it’s nice to take them for a spin. I should point out, however, that the Michael Schumacher content of the special edition isn’t really worth the extra money, since there aren’t any recreated scenario races this time around (after the disappointing Senna & Prost events last year), but the liveries and podium celebrations are pretty cool if Michael’s your man, not to mention the gorgeous garage of classic cars that spans his incredible career. F1 2020 is undoubtedly a brilliant use of the license, and while it’s taken time to get to this point after the series’ rocky generational leap some five years ago, we’re looking at the real deal here. It’s there if it was your fault, too, but relying on it too much makes the game far less rewarding. That aside (and my apparent inability to pit without losing some 4 seconds to the field), the racing is challenging and fun, and the rewind option is there if you make a mistake that doesn’t feel like your fault. The AI is decent, exhibiting textbook defensive driving and impressive opportunism, though they are a little heavy-handed when defending against perfectly good overtakes, turning in on your back wheel as you pass. ![]() Even so, thanks to more stringent corner cutting rules on multiplayer this time round, it isn’t quite as full of cheaters, even if some people are still inexplicably 5 seconds a lap faster. Online multiplayer is fun when you can get into a game-joining is currently difficult-and while the matches are impressively lag-free, even when spectating, the servers seem a little flaky right now, with clunky host migrations and too many connection issues dropping you from the race. It’s worth noting too that there is a DirectX 11 option when loading if DirectX 12 (tested) isn’t an option for you. Similarly, that new split screen mode manages around 45fps in this configuration, without any noticeable resolution hit. My Dell G5 5500 gaming laptop with an RTX 2070 ran F1 at 1080p ultra at 70-80fps, even in the rain, and also managed around 50fps in replays, which are traditionally 30fps inthe console versions. But it certainly plays beautifully all the same, and looks gorgeous without needing a top-end machine. The driving engine isn’t the most realistic by any means, and the movement of the cars in replay scenes still doesn’t look exactly like TV footage, which it arguably should at this stage. Command And Conquer Red Alert 2 + Yuri’s Revenge I let an 8-year-old and 11-year-old try it in split screen and they had an absolute blast. And with a new ‘Casual’ driving option and the ability to turn down all of the deeper elements, you don’t need to be a fan to have fun. It’s all likely to be overwhelming for newcomers, but anyone who knows the sport will appreciate the depth and authenticity here. After a few years of tweaking, F1 2020 represents arguably the perfect mix in terms of driving vs management, and the 10-year career mode is the best yet, complete with shorter seasons with as few as 9 races if you couldn’t finish even one season in F1 2019 by now. Turning the wheel too hard creates understeer that wears your tyres, and running over kerbs can break delicate components. Lifting and coasting into corners saves fuel and charges your ERS battery that allows for greater speed boosts later on, or when you need them most in a defensive situation. Of course, it’s ‘action’ in the modern F1 sense of the word, and while there are moments of genuine edge-of-your-bucket-seat excitement as your rival exits the pits right beside you into Turn 1, there are also countless regulations to follow and necessary management of components’ lifespan that makes F1 a far more cerebral racing game than some of its peers. But most brilliantly, everything eventually comes back to how you drive the car, which is of course paramount in what is still very much an action-packed racing game. And every variable, from the Acclaim stat to sponsor choice to component wear and how you fill the new calendar with off-track events, fits together with other systems to create a cohesive whole. ![]() ![]() ![]() But once the account they use as an essential part of their online identity – something potentially responsible for their reputation, job opportunities, relationships – became breached, well that’s a whole other story. Many people may not have cared too much that the account they use to leave comments on a media site was breached. If I was a Gawker customer, which as you can now discover for yourself, I’m not, I’d be pretty unimpressed at the impact on my LinkedIn and Yahoo accounts. The more pragmatic side would simply point out that the impact of the breach on Gawker’s customers became significantly worse when they were required to take action on totally unrelated websites. The do-gooder side of me would call this a “social responsibility”. This brings me to the point of this post your responsibility stretches beyond your application. Your responsibility goes beyond your application This is serious indictment of internet security practices as it acknowledges the high propensity for password reuse and concedes that once an individual is compromised in one location, chances are they will be compromised in many locations. In fact, the likelihood of password reuse was sufficiently high for LinkedIn, Yahoo and Blizzard (and probably others) to request potentially affected customers to reset passwords on their sites. Even the founder of Gawker used the same eight digit password for Twitter as he did his own company’s website! How many of the passwords above look “strong”? How many look like they could feasibly have been used on other websites? Other than the “gizmodo” one, I’d say the likelihood of reuse is rather high. Federated and second factor authentication services are great, but let’s face it – they have their own issues and how often are they actually used? There’s no arguing this is a big security no-no but there’s also no arguing that there’s very little we, as software developers, can do about this. Of course the problem here is human in that many people simply create themselves a master username and password and reuse these credentials everywhere. Why? Because evil-doers simply took compromised usernames, email addresses and passwords from Gawker, plugged them into Twitter and guess what? Many of them worked! Shortly after the Gawker hack, Twitter become flooded with Acai spam. There’s a lot of commentary out there about what they did wrong and how it lead to such a comprehensive breach, but what’s really interesting is the damage done beyond Gawker. Gawker obviously screwed up on a fairly grand scale. Because people reuse their credentials, Gawker’s approach to application security didn’t just compromise their own data, it compromised an untold number of other applications. How do we know this? Because every one of these passwords and hundreds of thousands more were stolen from Gawker last month and released into the wild where they are now readily accessible. The first one – 123456 – was used over two and a half thousand times alone. These 25 passwords were used a total of 13,411 times by people with Gawker accounts.
